NY Waterway, or New York Waterway, is a private transportation company running ferry and bus service in the Port of New York and New Jersey and in the Hudson River.

NY Waterway uses ferry slips at four terminals in Manhattan as well as terminals and slips in Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, and Edgewater, all located along the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway. Commuter peak service is also provided on the Haverstraw Ossining Ferry, Newburgh Beacon Ferry, and to the Raritan Bayshore. Excursions and sightseeing trips include those to Yankee Stadium, Gateway National Recreation Area, and Governors Island.

This is the best way to cross Hudson River. Commuters can use 2 tunnels (Lincoln and Holland) and George Washington Bridge (GWB) to cross Hudson River. But if you don't necessarily to cross river by your vehicle I strongly suggest take the ferry. longest trip between ports is 15min. which is the fastest way to cross river. Price is depend where you are taking the ferry but for your information Port Imperial, Weehawken, NJ to 39 street port, New York City is $9 per person each way.
There are bus services in both side of the Hudson river; NJ and NYC which is free charge of ferry passengers.

I except it is not most economic way to cross the Hudson River but if you in hurry and would like to have sightseeing trips, this is your best option.
