La Rambla is a street in central Barcelona, popular with tourists and locals alike. A tree-lined pedestrian mall, it stretches for 1.2 kilometres (0.75 mi) connecting Placa de Catalunya in the centre with the Christopher Columbus Monument at Port Vell. La Rambla forms the boundary between the quarters of Barri Gotic, to the east, and El Raval, to the west.
La Rambla can be crowded, especially during the height of the tourist season. Its popularity with tourists has affected the character of the street, with a move to pavement cafes and souvenir kiosks. It has also suffered from the attention of pickpockets and especially towards its southern end, sex workers.
The Spanish poet Federico García Lorca once said that La Rambla was "the only street in the world which I wish would never end."

This tree-lined street is the place to be to truly see the city on foot. It is like the spine of Barcelona. While some travelers might balk at the number of other tourists on this road, there are many natives of Barcelona who also walk Las Rambla to get to their destinations, or even just for a Saturday afternoon stroll. Las Rambla’s trees and historic buildings are extremely picturesque, and they truly capture the essence of Barcelona. There are lots of street performers, souvenir sellers, and all sorts of vendors. It captures a typical plaza ambience with a distinctly Catalonian twist. However my favorite place of all is Boqueria: The Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, often simply referred to as La Boqueria, is a large public market in the Ciudad Vieja district of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, and one of the city's foremost tourist landmarks, with an entrance from La Rambla, not far from the Liceo, Barcelona's NK opera house.
